Penalty and Off Overshadow #8 Mazda Powered Lola's Strong Performance
Photo by John ThawleyA pair of quick Porsches, and a rough and crowded circuit kept the B-K Motorsports Mazda prototype from seeing its full potential for the American Le Mans Series Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock.
With qualifying rained out, the cars were staged on the start grid based on times from the first round of practice. The B-K Mazda would start 10th with Jamie Bach in control. Jamie ran the first stint steering clear of any problems and at 3:59PM (0h 54m running), came into the pits. for a full set of tires, fuel, while turning of the driving duties to Ben Devlin.
Just minutes later, IMSA Timing and Scoring called Devlin into the pits to serve a stop and go penalty for driving over an air hose.
With 1 hour and 21 minutes elapsed in the race Ben pulled into the pits for a quick fuel and proceeded without a driver change.
Then at 2:28 mark, trouble struck. Devlin was off course and stopped at turn 2 after having contact with Dominik Farnbacher in the #73-GT2 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. The team would retire the car finishing 8th in class and 18th overall.
