BACH PUTS B-K, MAZDA AND KUMHO FOURTH ON GRID IN LMP2
The B-K crew made a few changes to the car to soften it up for the bumpy, Reliant Park track. The team also changed to a softer KUMHO tire to help the car deal with the bumps.
"We made a few mechanical changes to the car and we just kind of learned the track a little bit more," said Bach. "We adapted to the new tires, and I think with a few more sessions we could have picked up some more time. These tires seemed to grip on this surface a little better. There's not a lot of rubber out there because race cars don't run on this track on a regular basis."
Rudy Consolacion, motorsports manager for KUMHO, echoed Bach's opinion of the track. "The bumps and the surface of the track make it challenging to find the setup that provides the best grip," he said. "We changed to a softer compound so we could get more heat in the front tires and also changed the front camber so we could even out the temperatures across the tread. The changes seemed to help, and Jamie did a great job out there to shave nearly two seconds off his best lap time."
NOTES: Bach is in his fourth year at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he's studying mechanical engineering. He's currently taking five classes and has finals next week. "I have five finals that I have to complete next week before we go to Mid-Ohio. I missed my review day for four out of the five classes today, unfortunately, but I'll make them up on Monday."
